  2. And thanks for taking the time to look at my No Beef Theme Pack.

  5. This theme is intended for use with Microsoft Plus! or a similar theme installer 
  6. program.  If you do not have a theme installer you can download some great 
  7. ones at http://www.freethemes.com.  They have a wealth of great desktop themes, 
  8. and related materials as well.

  10. Well.......if you don't have Plus!, you can install all of these by hand
  11. by going into the control panel and assigning each cursor, sound....etc.
  12.  
  13. If you do have Plus!, then you should already know what to do.......but if
  14. you don't.......read on:

  16. INSTALLATION
  17. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  18. To install the theme, proceed along the following steps:
  19.       Double click on the "NoBeef.zip" to open it, and unzip the contents to:
  20.       C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\NoBeef.  Then go to your control panel.  
  21.       Then go into the desktop themes.  Click on the pulldown menu and go to the 
  22.       bottom of the list.  You will see "Other".  Click on other, and you will then 
  23.       see a regular file listing. Click on the "NoBeef" directory.  Open it, and 
  24.       then you will see the "NoBeef.theme".  Double click on it to  see a 
  25.       preview of my theme pack.

  27. To install the screensaver, proceed as follows:
  28.       Copy, the Cows.scr to your C:\Windows directory.
  29.  
  30. To install the startup, wait and shutdown logos, proceed as follows:
  31.       *.sys file type is usually hidden in most people's computers. 
  32.        Hence, you may have trouble in finding *.sys  files for copying 
  33.        the files.  To see these hidden files, you can  use either 
  34.        suggestion below:          
  35.              Suggestion 1:   Go to Explorer, choose View menu, then select Options...
  36.                                       In the dialog, enable "Show all files".
  37.  
  38.              Suggestion 2:   Use a DOS window, in which most *.sys files 
  39.                     can be viewed normally.
  40.     
  41.       Step A:   Extract the new .SYS file to a temporary directory.
  42.       Step B:   Move (backup) original "start-up" logo, "LOGO.SYS" from the
  43.                       root directory of your boot drive, usually C:\ to another
  44.                       temporary directory.
  45.       Step C:   Use DOS window or Explorer to copy new logo file to the 
  46.                       root directory, usually C:\, and rename the new copy to 
  47.                       "LOGO.SYS".
  48.       Step D:   Restart your computer, and you're done!

  50. NOTE:   If you cannot find logo.sys in your drives, including the host 
  51.                drive, chances are Win95/98 is using the logo that is 
  52.                embedded in io.sys as your start up logo.  In this case, you 
  53.                don't have logo.sys to backup.    Simply place the new logo.sys 
  54.                in the root directory of your boot (host) drive. 
  55.                Logo.sys in the root directory will take precedence of the one 
  56.                embedded in io.sys file.  To get back to the original win95 
  57.                logo, simply rename the logo.sys to other name.

  59. * To restore the original win95\98 logo, you must save (backup) the 
  60.    file in Step A.  Then just copy the original logo to the  designated directory.

  62. SUMMARY

  64. I made the zip like this because:  
  65.  
  66. 1.  I somtimes download theme packs that are not any good, and if we
  67.      all put the directories for our themes into separate directories, then
  68.      it would be much simpler for someone to get rid of them.
  69. 2.  If at some later date I need some space, it will be easy to get rid of  
  70.      (or transfer to floppies) some theme packs that take up a lot of space.

  74. The "No Beef" Theme was created by Debra K. Shaw.  The cows pictured on the 
  75. wallpaper are from  http://www.lmb.uni-muenchen.de/groups/schaetzl/contents.htm.
  76. The icons were created by me, and the sounds have be revised from various other 
  77. sources, and adapted to this theme.  The cursors were also taken from other themes 
  78. and adapted by me.

  80. The NoBeef animated startup, wait and shutdown logos are my first attempt at
  81. creating logo files.  These will hopefully be revised, to perfection, at a future point 
  82. in time......meaning......I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN!!!  Perhaps you will enjoy them 
  83. anyway.
